How to read these maps

What counts. A detection is a radar-estimated hail window over a county of 1.25″ or larger. Smaller hail is tracked but not published here.

Scope. Numbers are per county and per state for the last 30 days. They say hail was estimated nearby, not that it reached a particular roof.

Freshness. Activity refreshes every few minutes while storms run and the 30-day window rolls daily.

Estimates, not damage. Radar estimates size from the storm; eyewitness reports and inspections confirm what happened on the ground. Radar can overstate the very largest stones, so estimates above 5″ are published as 5″ or larger.

Check your address. Enter it at the top of the page: the answer is the radar-estimated record at that property and the reports nearby, and the report you download is that record, dated.

Sizes shown are radar-derived estimates of the largest hail in each storm window, produced by SkyVision's own detection engine from national weather radar — not crowd-sourced reports. Ground conditions at a specific address can differ, which is why every map lets you check your exact address.

What size hail damages a roof?

Hail as small as 1″ can bruise asphalt shingles in ways you can’t see from the ground, and that damage often surfaces months later as leaks. Larger hail can crack shingles, dent metal roofing and gutters, and break seals in a single storm.

How current are these hail maps?

SkyVision analyzes national weather radar continuously — not once a day. Available qualifying detections appear in county activity summaries and storm records as the data refreshes. Conditions vary by address.
